- Contact your local post office and fill
out a relocation form at least 2 weeks in
advance. The post office provides
these forms for free.
- Close current bank account (s), making
sure there are no outstanding items and wire
balance to your new bank.
- Notify all utility companies such as water, electric,
telephone, and cable companies that you are
moving at least 2 weeks in advance. This is
also a god time to cancel any newspaper and
magazine service.
- Always keep important documents with you
and in the same area and make duplicates. If
moving out of an apartment, reserve the
elevator with your landlord or manager.
- Find doctors, fire and police stations
close to your new home. Get all medical
records from your doctors and ask for
referrals.
- Have your driver's license, auto
registration, and tags renewed after moving
and look for auto insurance policies.
- Make sure your belongings are insured
and record details such as serial numbers on
electronics (or take photos) before packing.

- Always keep these packing supplies
nearby:
tape measure,
tape and scissors, boxes,
bubble wrap, newspaper, marking pen.
- If you belong to churches, clubs, or
organizations, move your membership to your
new city.
- Make sure each box you have does not
exceed 50 pounds and that the boxes are
secure and the contents are evenly balanced
in these boxes.
- Get your pet's health certificate from
the vet if it will be going by plane within
2 weeks before the flight.
- Unpack plants as soon as possible
because they need proper care.
- Write which room each box goes in and
whether it's fragile and needs to be
unloaded first.
- Examine all drawers, cabinets, closets,
etc. to make sure they're empty before you
leave.
Check around closets and behind open doors
before you vacate your old premises.
